NADH and FADHâ‚‚ cannot donate electrons to the chain. NADH continues to accumulate because it can't pass off its electrons. Free energy ceases to be created as electrons stop passing down the chain. H+:
a) Accumulates in the intermembrane space.
b) Moves into the matrix.
c) Is converted to ATP.
d) Reacts with oxygen to form water.
