The difference of a number and 5 is (n-5).
Twice the difference of a number and 5 is 2(n-5).

2(n-5)=6
n-5=3
n=8

Twice the difference of a number and 6 equals 5

Mathematically, it can be written as [tex]\rm 2(x-6)=5[/tex]  where, x is that number.

On solving we get,

        [tex]\rm 2(x-6)=5\\(x-6)= \dfrac{5}{2}\\\\\x=\dfrac{5}{2}+6\\\x=\dfrac{17}{2}[/tex]

Therefore, the number will be [tex]\rm x=\dfrac{17}{2}[/tex]
