Billy graphed the system of linear equations to find an approximate solution. y = -7/4x + 5/2 y = 3/4x – 3. Which points are possible approximations for this system? Check all that apply.

Respuesta :

Ideally you would graph the system of linear equations   y = -7/4x + 5/2 y = 3/4x – 3   yourself, and then determine the approx. coordinates of their point of intersection.

Your system,
y = -7/4x + 5/2 y = 3/4x – 3, should be written as:

y = (-7/4)x + (5/2)
y = (3/4)x – 3

It is important that you put no more than one function on each line.

To solve this system algebraically, set y = y:  (-7/4)x + 10/4 = (3/4)x - 3

Now mult all terms by 4 to elim. fractions:

-7x + 10 = 3x - 12

Then  10 = 3x + 7x - 12, or    10 = 10x - 12, or 10x = 22; x is 2.2.

You can now find y by subbing 2.2 for x in either of the given equations.

The solution will have the form (2.2,  y).

Once again, note that you were asked to solve this system by graphing.

Graph:

y = (-7/4)x + (5/2)
y = (3/4)x – 3

and then determine approx. the coordinates of the pt. of intersection.
