5+x=14-8x........ 9x=9........ x=1

5 + x = 14 - 8x
*add 8x to both sides and subtract 5 from both sides
5 - 5 + x + 8x = 14 - 5 - 8x + 8x
9x = 9
9x/9 = 9/9
x = 1
