Wendy can wash a car twice as fast as Jason. When they work together, Wendy and Jason can wash a large van in 2 hours. How many hours would it take Wendy to wash the van by herself? A. 5 B. 3 C 4 D. 2

Let w hours be the time Wendy takes to wash a car.
Then Jason takes 2w hours to wash a car.
If Wendy and Jason wash a car together for one hour, we can write:
[tex]\frac{1}{w}+\frac{1}{2w}=\frac{1}{2}[/tex]
The solution of this equation is w = 3.
The correct answer is B. 3 hours.
Well, we know that when doing the job together, wendy does 2/3 of the work and john does 1/3 of the whole 2 hours

So if she does it alone, she need 3/2 x 2 hours  = 3 hours

The answer is option B
