In the General Assembly, the Lieutenant Governor serves as the official leader of the Georgia Senate. This is similar to the U.S. government in that the Vice President serves as the official head of the Senate. Unlike the national government, though, the Georgia Lieutenant Governor is elected separately from the Governor, and can actually be of the opposing political party.
